The Origin Ridiyagama Safari Park

Ridiyagama Safari Park is operated under the Department of National Zoological Gardens and is located in the Ambalantota Divisional Secretary’s Division in Southern Sri Lanka.

Spanning 500 acres, the park was officially opened to the public on 18th March 2016. Since its opening, it has rapidly grown into one of the leading tourist attractions in the southern region and is expected to become one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent eco-tourism destinations.

Park Zones

Currently, visitors can explore animals across the following zones:

🐘 Asian Elephant Zone
🦌 Herbivore Zone
🐾 Small Animal Zone

Each zone is designed to provide a naturalistic environment, ensuring both visitor engagement and animal welfare.

Upcoming Developments (By 2028)

The park is continuously expanding, with several exciting additions planned:

All major development activities are scheduled for completion by 2028, enhancing the park’s eco-tourism and conservation capacity.

Conservation & Breeding Center

As Sri Lanka’s premier ex-situ wildlife conservation authority, the Department of National Zoological Gardens has established an Animal Conservation and Breeding Center within the park.

This center focuses on:
• Breeding threatened and endangered species
• Establishing wildlife reserves
• Supporting long-term biodiversity conservation initiatives

Visitors are offered the opportunity to observe a wide variety of animal species distributed across multiple zones, making the safari experience both educational and immersive.
